Case 1106

1. Application to the Waifs and Strays' Society 29 July 1887

View the Case Summary.

M. (goes by the name of M.) lives in a dreadfully neglected state, totally without good influence, her eldest sister of 14 is ignorant of all good, well acquainted with all that is bad & vicious, is noted for using bad language & fighting with others of her own age & even with women, she keeps her father's house in a filthy state & is supposed to bring up all the younger ones of the family. M runs about all day long in tattered garments, sometimes has scarcely any clothes on at all, it is a most distressing case, as the children are surrounded by evil of every kind, the father is seldom at home, & is said to be seldom sober. - Unless the child can be placed in a "Home" near London, he will not consent to her going at all, as it is, his consent is very reluctant.
