1. Application to the Waifs and Strays' Society 29 July 1887

The boys father was paralyzed [?] years ago became afterwards very violent & taken to Wells Asylum as it was not safe for him to be at home. During his life, he [?] had 5/- a week from a Club After his [charges] the grandfather by his [?] took charge of the boy & he was with him until the grandfather in a fit of temporary insanity cut his throat. He had lived a very respectful life & much sympathy was felt for his relations. Since his death two years ago the boy has been [?] upon his [?] who has also another boy 5 yr old to support. If the elder boy is taken off her hands she can go to service & [?] difficult to pay [?] for taking charge of the younger boy. none of the relations can afford to give anything for [?] support. If the Society cannot help by taking the older boy they must all go into the Union. The mother has been a cook 9 years in one place 3 in another before her marriage & can easily get a place again. She is a quiet respectible woman - deserving of help after 3 years of hardship & trouble
