4 years old at that time, with the result that A lost an arm, which had to be amputated. When over twelve I placed her in the Waifs & Strays for about six years, paying £13 per annum & providing all her clothing. I was given to understand that by doing this, A would be taken charge of by the Society, who would find her suitable employment in one of their houses, & be permanently cared for. I and her mother at that time jointly signed papers
