Case 326

2. Letter from the Society for Organising Charitable Relief and Repressing Mendicity 18 June 1884

View the Case Summary.

father of the child. She appears to have mentioned its existence to Mr. S. before marriage, and he does not appear to have objected then; but 2 years ago he began a course of cruel treatment. He also ill treats his own two children when in drink, a frequent occurrence. He neglects his business. The mother is said to drink also: the home and children are neglected & dirty, and they are much in debt, and receive a bad character from the neighbours. The mother's relations will pay 3/- a week for the boy in a Home. The Committee think him a case for the Homes."
