The mother was in for 2 years with cancer & died in hospital, the father [after] gave way to drink & had delirium-tremens & was confined - Lambeth Workhouse for some weeks - afterwards being [sold up] went down into Kent in search of work & eventually went in with Children to Ashford Union, where he deserted them under pretest of getting together another home - he was apprehended & sentenced to 3 months, since which time he has been traveling about from place to place, the [man] speaks as an intelligent man the children are clean & above the tramp clan, he has now given unto [?] here waiting reply. We feel it is most urgent, the child may now be rescued from a life of vagrancy.
