Case 3392

1. Application to Waifs and Strays' Society 29 November 1892

View the Case Summary.

E aged 8 is daughter to E who has been in a Lunatic Asylum & is most peculiar. I can give no better account of his doings than by enclosing an extract from Oxford Times Nov. 26. 92 Mrs. -- her mother has been in the habit of drinking but appears to wish now to do better, she has signed the pledge, but only a few days ago. The poor children have a miserable home & look dirty, neglected & not properly fed. The best thing that can happen to them, appears to be to take them away from their wretched surroundings. I do not think it is in the least likely that the child's relations will give any help towards maintenance; the mother has suggest that --'s sister may do something, but I believe she is only a poor working woman, anyhow I will write to her, there is no one else who can help E, I feel sure would have to be a "Free" case. At any time if I can help your excellent society in any way, I shall do so, whether you take the child or not, at present I can only afford to subscribe 5/ annually.
