It was not until after she came that Mrs. Howard hinted at the sad possibility which has now, alas! proved to be a fact, but the child behaved so well and seemed in all respects so promising that we could not but hope that she had been rescued first in time & the Matron was strongly of opinion that this was the case.

M. has always conducted herself well better in the Shelter and at the Walcot Parochial School, where she bears a very good character; so far from being a depraved child,
