View the Case Summary.

S. Oswald's College,
ELLESMERE, SHROPSHIRE.

(Under the Direction of the Provost and Fellows of S. Mary and S. John of Lichfield, and in union with S. Nicolas College, Lancing.)

FOR THE SONS OF GENTLEMEN OF NARROW MEANS, OF TRADESMEN, FARMERS, AND OTHERS TO WHOM EDUCATION AT A SMALL COST IS NECESSARY.

Visitor: The Lord Bishop of Lichfield
Provost: Brb. Canon Lowe, D.D.

EDUCATION.
1. The College is situated one mile from Ellesmere Station, on the Cambrian Railway, in a very healthy position, and is within easy reach, by Chester or Crewe, from the Northern and Midland Counties, and North Wales.

OBJECT.
2. S. Oswald's College includes a Grammar School, Servitors' School, and Training School for Masters.
The Grammar School is conducted on the principles of the old Public Schools of the Church of England, and is intended, under God's Blessing, to meet the wants of persons of very small means, whose sons may be boarded, and maybe educated in the subjects necessary for them, at an expense little exceeding the cost of food.

RELIGIOUS TEACHING.
3. The Chaplain attends to the moral and religious training of the boys, as it is believed that a Clergyman, not concerned in their daily secular instruction, may do much to promote a truthful intercourse between Master and Scholar. The Bishop of Lichfield holds a Confirmation every year. The Head Master is a Clergyman, and the Assistant Masters are Clergymen, Graduates, Associates of S. Nicolas College, and others.

SUBJECTS TAUGHT.
4. The following subjects form the ordinary School course: Divinity, including instruction in the Bible, Prayer Book, Church Catechism and Church History; English and Latin; Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic; Mathematics, including Euclid and Algebra; Geography, English History; and Vocal Music. Greek, Book-keeping, and Elementary Chemistry are also taught, if desired, without extra charge.
For Drilling and Linear Drawing a small charge is made, as specified below under the head of ordinary extra charges.
Piano, French, German, Experimental Chemistry, and Advanced Drawing are optional extras.

ADMISSION.
5. A boy is admitted at nine years old if he can read and write fairly. If he has been at School before, a certificate of good conduct from his last teacher is required. New boys are not admitted, except in special cases, after they have reached the age of 16.

ENTRANCE FEE AND CAUTION MONEY.
6. An Entrance Fee of ten shillings and Caution money, £1, must be paid on entering a boy's name for admission; and the Application Form must be filled up and sent to the Head Master, to whom all enquiries and applications should be addressed.
