Case 8650

1. Application to Waifs and Strays' Society 29 November 1901

View the Case Summary.

A is an orphan, having lost both parents quite recently. At present she is living with a married sister, who has three children of her own & whose home is in one of the worst parts of the town. She has two other sisters, one married & the other not, and a brother, the only one in the family who is earning anything. She has been baptized into the Church of England. She is in her tenth year, has had the right leg amputated, the result I believe of disease, her general health is fairly good and she appears to be intelligent & there seems no reason why she should not one day be able to earn her own living. The Sharrow (Sheffield) Branch of the Northern Children's Union undertakes to send at least - £30 yearly to the Bradstock Lockett Home, and will continue to do this as long at any rate as A is maintained by the Waifs & Strays Society - And very likely in addition to this the members could provide the child's clothing if wished -

(Miss) Ellen
