Case 9288

1. Application to the Waifs and Strays' Society 14 July 1902

View the Case Summary.

Dear Sir
The particulars given on the preceding pages are so minute that there is little to add in explanation of this application. The mother of the child is a very respectable woman, doing her best to bring up her children as a parent should do. The father was a member of Christ Church Choir, a Communicant, very steady & very hard working. He was at Church one Sunday & dead the next. The eldest girl has just begun to earn a little money, last week being the 1st: but, the mother has a heavy rent to pay to provide food & clothing for her 3 children besides supporting herself. The task is a heavy one at present. If the boy were taken off her hands, she would be helped indeed. Her case is a very piteous one. Especially when the age of her husband is considered. If you can receive the child into one of your homes, you would indeed be a father to a most deserving fatherless child.
Yours faithfully
P.
