1. Application to Waifs and Strays' Society 31 January 1903

View the Case Summary.

Strongly recommended by the Leicester Committee. [?]

The child belongs to respectable family, chiefly labourer. The father was buried under a fall of earth in a brick field at Newbury. The widow received some compensation, but being practically blind she can do nothing but live upon the money which is vanishing. She had come to live for a time with the husband's parents, both old folk & the man of casual labouring work. The widow is expecting another child directly. If one or two children could be taken off her hands, I think the relatives could [?] of the widow & remaining infant.
