Case 9646

1. Application to Waifs and Strays' Society 7 June 1903

View the Case Summary.

The child has had a wretched home, both the parents were incorrigible drunkards. The relations on both sides are respectable working people. The father's relations have long ceased to notice him & now decline to help or to the amount of their weekly earnings. The child's brother is an extremely good lad & has, by his own efforts ; joined H.M. Navy & earned an excellent character. The eldest who is also done well in her situation, having been there, 16 months. Miss Melly tells me that the head mistress of the Harrington Board School, gives the child a very good character & says she is some of the best material in the school to work upon. I have known her for some years & feel sure that what they have done for her now will be amply repaid by her [future]
