Case 9653

1. Application to the Waifs and Strays' Society 25 April 1903

View the Case Summary.

The mother comes of a respectable family who were - and some still are employed in one service, but this girl lived for several years with the man (himself an illegitimate son) before they were married, during which time the two elder children were born. The younger child (18 months old) was born since the marriage. The father could earn good wages as Collier when he liked, but led a somewhat irregular life & wd. occasionally leave home without notice for two or three weeks at a time. He left home last August, & his wife has not seen him since & has reason to suppose he is now living with another woman. We are most anxious to remove the child from her present surroundings, as the mother is in a most undesirable situation & the child is dependent on the charity of neighbours, & will willingly guarantee the payment necessary for her maintenance in the Waif & Stray Home

I thoroughly believe that it would be most advantageous for this child to be removed from her present surroundings & to heartily recommend the case.
