Case 176

3. Letter from Sister Emma, House of the Holy Child, 4 June 1886

View the Case Summary.

Perhaps he might go over to see him, or perhaps in S. Chad's College holidays J. might go to him for a few days.

I knew that J. was only 11 on April 10 being born in 1875, not 1873 as is stated in the case paper - the wife showed me the entry in a family bible where the children's names were entered, so I believe it is authentic evidence. There is a girl, E. two years younger than E., & J. was between her & R. 3 years older than the latter. The father had been a soldier & was in receipt of a pension at the time of his death.

Both J. & his wife had been brought up in church schools at Smethwick (some two miles farther from here) but they don't seem to attend church now, though they are close to that for the district, only going there "when they do go". This would make it an undesirable house for J. so I hope you will keep him. I hope this report will help you to understand the matter pretty fully.

Yours faithfully
