1. Application to the Waifs and Strays' Society 19 October 1897

View the Case Summary.

A belongs to a family of eight children who were left orphans some fifteen months ago. The father and mother were well known to me as most respectable people and it was a real tragedy when they died within a few months of each other - leaving eight children all under nineteen. The baby was taken by an Aunt the only one of their relations who responded at all to the [?] they were in and a little girl I succeeded in [?] into the Blue [Girl] School here, so that little A who is now five is the only young child left to be looked after. If he is not able to be taken in to some home it means that one of the elder sisters who are the chief bread winners of the family will have to stay away from their work in order to look after him as he is to young to leave alone in the home. At the time of the Father's death the little boy was very ill with pneumonia and for nearly a year he was in the Infirmary. afterwards in a private nursing home, but he is in perfectly [?] again.
